A number of estates in Nairobi are bracing for water supply interruptions starting Thursday, October 5, as the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company undertakes essential maintenance work.
The scheduled water supply interruption, which will last from Thursday at 6:00 am to Friday, October 6, at 12:00 pm, is due to the temporary shutdown of the Ngethu Water Treatment Plant.
According to a notice posted in local newspapers, the shutdown is necessary to facilitate the repair of a significant leakage on the raw water pipeline connecting Matara Raw Water Chamber and the Ngethu Water Treatment Plant.
The company has urged residents in the affected areas to use water sparingly during this period of interruption. Areas set to be affected include the Central Business District, Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, EPZ-Athi river, Gatundu, Kiambu town along Mombasa Road, South B, South C, Embakasi Area, and the entire Industrial area.

Other areas that will experience water supply disruptions include Lang’ata Road, Madaraka, Karen, Lang’ata, Kibra, Mlango Kubwa, Mathare, Eastleigh Airforce Base, Huruma, Kariobangi, Pangani, Eastleigh along Juja road, Maringo, Buruburu, Bahati along Jogoo Road, Outer-ring road, Baba Dogo, Dandora, Dandora KCC factory, Umoja Estate 1 and 2, Donholm, Fedha, Tassia, Avenue Park, Nyayo, Embakasi, Ruai, Kayole, Komarock estate, Mwiki, and Njiru along Kagundo Road.
Areas along Thika Road, including Kenya Breweries, Kenyatta University, Githurai, Zimmerman, Kahawa West, Kahawa Barracks, Kasarani, Mwiki, Kahawa Sukari, Kahawa Wendani, Brookside Dairies, Garden Estate, and Thome Estate, will also experience water supply interruptions.
In addition, residents in Limuru areas, Parklands, Ngara area, Aga Khan Hospital, University of Nairobi-School of Law, City Park Area, Gigiri, United Nations-Gigiri, Muthaiga, areas along Naivasha Road, Kikuyu Road, Kawangware, Riruta/Satellite, Uthiru, Ndwaru Road, areas along James Gichuru Road, Langata Road, and Waiyaki Way, Riverside, Westlands, Lavington, Kilimani, and Kileleshwa, should prepare for water interruptions.
The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company emphasized that these disruptions are essential for the maintenance and improvement of the water supply infrastructure.
Residents are encouraged to store enough water to meet their needs during the scheduled interruption.
