Uhuru’s timely bone for Mungatana

President Uhuru Kenyatta has come to the rescue of former Garsen MP Danson Mungatana following the intervention of a governor from the Coast. Friends say Mungatana who unsuccessfully ran for Tana River governor was on the “verge of destitution.” The former assistant minister has landed a job at the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (Comesa) following a nomination by President Kenyatta.

Mungatana has been job-hunting for some time now. In October 2017, he went job-hunting in Meru County where he was shortlisted for the position of chief legal officer. He failed. He then applied for the Tana River County Assembly speaker’s seat. He failed. He was later short-listed for the position of Clerk but pulled out.

When the chickens come to roost

Two former MPs from Migori County who have been at loggerheads with Opposition leader  Raila Odinga are literally on their knees, with the hope of mending fences ahead of the October 8  Migori Senate by-election. The politicians who are eyeing the ODM ticket, fell out with Odinga before the 2017 elections. They are said to have sent emissaries to Odinga seeking a truce. ODM has indicated that it will not hold primaries for its ticket, but will handpick its flag-bearer. The position fell vacant following the death of Senator Ben Olouch to throat cancer.

CS afraid of looming ‘persecution’

A cabinet secretary under whose docket individuals have been arrested is said to be jittery over the outcome of impending prosecutions on corruption. Sources say minister is afraid that disgruntled junior officers could spill the beans on their bosses and there is no saying how high up they may choose to take that game. The minister is said to be angry with gusty Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji who, he thinks, should be advised “to go slow”. Sound familiar?

Right where it pinches

The shoe is on the other foot for DP William Ruto over the Mau evictions.  Having opposed the Raila Odinga-inspired evictions in 2009 during the Grand Coalition government, Ruto is now a central player in a government that is conducting what has been described as “inhumane” eviction of nearly 9,000 families from the complex.
