President William Ruto has carried out fresh appointments and promotions in the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) following recommendations from the Defence Council, chaired by Defence Cabinet Secretary Aden Bare Duale.
In a statement issued on Friday, March 8, Dr. Ruto promoted Major General Charles Muriu Kahariri to the rank of Lieutenant General appointing him to Vice Chief of the Defence Forces.
Mr Kahariri is replacing Lieutenant General Jonah Maina Mwangi whose term ended after 42 years of service.
The President also promoted and appointed Major General David Kimaiyo Tarus to the rank of Lieutenant General and appointed him the Commander of the Kenya Army.
Lieutenant General Tarus replaces Lieutenant General Peter Mbogo Njiru whose term ended after 39 years of service.
“Until his appointment as Commander Kenya Army, Lieutenant General David Kimaiyo Tarus was the Deputy Army Commander,” read the statement by KDF in part,” the statement read in part.
President Ruto also promoted Major General Jimson Longiro to the rank of Lieutenant General. Longiro, who had previously served as the Commander of the Kenya Navy, was also appointed as the new Vice-Chancellor of National Defence University.
The President also promoted Brigadier Thomas Njoroge Ng’ang’a to the rank of Major General and appointed him the Commander Kenya Navy.
Before his appointment, as the new Commander of Kenya Navy, Brigadier Thomas Njoroge was the Base Commander of Kenya Navy Base Manda.
