Uasin Gishu governor Jonathan Bii has nominated Tembelio Ward Member of County Assembly Evans Kapkea as his deputy.
Governor Bii nominated Kapkea following the resignation of his deputy John Barorot who stepped down from his position to take up a new role as a chief executive officer of an international ICT firm.
Kapkea holds a bachelor’s degree in analytical chemistry from Moi University and currently serves as the chairperson of the Uasin Gishu County Assembly’s Trade, Industrialization, Tourism and Investment Committee.
He is also a member of the Assembly’s Budget, Finance and Appropriations Committee, Health Committee and Delegated Legislation. The MCA is currently pursuing an MSc. in Analytical Chemistry at Moi University.
“Following the resignation of deputy governor John Barorot and in exercise of the powers conferred under Section 32D 1 (a) of the County Government Act, 2012, the Governor has today the 21st Day of August, 2024 nominated Mr. Evans Kipruto Kapkea as nominee for the deputy governor, county government of Uasin Gishu, and forwarded the name to the County Assembly for vetting and consideration,” the governor said in a statement on Monday.
Barorot resigned from his position as deputy governor on August 19, 2024, through an announcement made during a meeting with senior county staff at the Eka Hotel in Eldoret and which was attended by governor Bii.
The county boss said that his deputy had made the decision after securing a new role as chief executive officer at an international ICT firm that will begin on September 1, 2024.
Barorot at the time said that he had no differences with the governor, as speculated by the public but sought to exploit other opportunities.
He noted there he is looking at such a transformation since he has been in the ICT world in the last 30 years.
“It’s in the private sector but it has a catalytic role, I go with my head high because of my passion. I have worked well with the governor and other employees,” he said.
In his statement on Monday, governor Bii also reorganized his chief officers, designating Ambrose Kiprotich Tarus to the Administration and Devolution docket, while Naomi Jelagat Tirop took up the Public Service Management department.
The other reassigned Chief Officers are Victorine Kapkiyai (Trade, Investments, Inductrialization and Tourism), Nathan Korir (Economic Planning), Geoffrey Tanui (Lands and Physical Planning), Mark Kipkemboi Some (Gender, Social Protection and Culture), and Eunice Jemutai Suter (Youth and Sports).
