A 25-year-old woman was found guilty of theft on Monday and sentenced to one year of imprisonment by a Kenol Court.

Sarah Nyambura, appearing before Senior Resident Magistrate Sheila Nyaga, was accused of stealing 13 pineapples worth Sh1300 from the Delmonte Kenya farm.

According to the facts presented by the prosecution, the accused was arrested on June 2, 2024, at around 4:22 pm on the Delmont farm while in the act of stealing pineapples.

The court also learned that the accused was a repeat offender, having been charged in the same court for the same offence in 2023.

Furthermore, the prosecution noted that the accused had a tendency to recruit minors and use them to assist her in perpetrating the crime of stealing pineapples.

The accused pleaded guilty and, in mitigation, asked the court for leniency, noting that she had stolen to pay school fees for her two school-going children, who had been sent home due to unpaid fees.

The court found Nyambura guilty of the offence and convicted her based on her own plea of guilt, sentencing her to one year of imprisonment.
