Siaya High Court Judge Daniel Ogembo was on Wednesday morning found dead inside his residential house in Siaya Town.

The judge, until his untimely death, was the presiding judge at Siaya High Court.

Ogembo is said to have on Tuesday afternoon complained he was not feeling well despite honouring his work calendar.

This is according to his driver who on Wednesday, July 17, raised the alarm after the judge failed to pick up his calls and text messages.

The driver said that he was forced to seek help in breaking into the home of the judge to check up on him after his phone went unanswered.

Siaya governor James Orengo on Wednesday mourned the judge as a man of integrity who treated all fairly.

“Justice Ogembo had a marvellous ability to listen intently, reflect quietly and then interject, usually with a brief few words that brought clarity in the courtroom. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Orengo said.

While the Judge stayed on the residential property alone, his family was notified and rushed to the scene to open the house and confirm the body.

Police officers also arrived on the scene and took his body to the mortuary for autopsy.

Before being posted to Siaya, Ogembo had served in Eldoret and Milimani High Courts.

Ogembo’s death was the third one in quick succession to hit the Judiciary following the deaths of Justice David Majanja and Principal Magistrate Monica Kivuti.

Incidentally, Justice Majanja was being laid to rest on the same day that Ogembo was found dead.

Chief Magistrate Monica Kivuti died on June 15, after she succumbed to gunshot injuries inflicted by a police officer during an open-court session.
