Erastus Edung Ethekon is poised to become the new Chairperson of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), following his nomination by President William Ruto.

The announcement was made Thursday evening through a press statement issued by Head of Public Service Felix Koskei. It came just two days after President Ruto received the final report from the IEBC Selection Panel.

Ethekon, who comes from Turkana County, is expected to take over from the late Wafula Chebukati, the former IEBC chairperson who passed away in February.

His appointment is now subject to vetting and approval by Parliament.

At the same time, President Ruto nominated six IEBC commissioners from different regions, including Registrar of Political Parties Ann Nderitu, who hails from Nyandarua County.

Moses Alutalala Mukhwana (Kakamega), Mary Karen Sorobit (Uasin Gishu), Hassan Noor Hassan (Mandera), Francis Odhiambo Aduol (Kisumu), and Fahima Araphat Abdallah (Lamu).

“The nominations have been transmitted to the National Assembly for consideration and approval by Parliament, in accordance with the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act as well as the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act (Chapter 7F, Laws of Kenya),” Koskei said.
