President William Ruto has made key changes in the Kenya Defence Forces by promoting at least 23 senior military officers. The changes were announced following a meeting of the Defence Council chaired by Musalia Mudavadi, Acting Cabinet Secretary of the Ministry of Defence and Prime Cabinet Secretary on Wednesday.
Notable among the appointments is that of Major General Stephen James Mutuku to the position of Deputy Commandant, at the National Defence College. President Ruto briefed on the recommendations from the Defence Council meeting and upheld several promotions, postings, and appointments across different branches of the military.
In the Kenya Army, Colonel Edward Nyamao was promoted to Brigadier and appointed as Chief of Compensation and Welfare (DHQ). Colonel Collins Otieno also advanced to the rank of Brigadier and assumed the role of Chief of Personnel (HQ KA).
Other promotions to Brigadier rank include Colonel Paul Koech as Chief of Training, Clement Nyakundi as Deputy Managing Director of the Kenya Meat Commission, and Colonel Victor Mburu as Commander of the Combat Engineers Brigade.
Other notable promotions include Colonel Eric Kitusya as Chief of Logistics (HQ KA), Colonel Salaash Kantai as Commander of the Military Intelligence Corps, and Colonel Edward Banda as Brigade Commander of the 8th Brigade.

Dr. Charles Ochieng has been appointed Chief of Naval Medical Services, Yusuf Adan as Chief of Communication Information System, DHQ, with Lieutenant Colonel Jane Muringi coming in as Service Chaplain after her promotion to Colonel.
In the Kenya Air Force, Colonel Bernard Oluoch has been promoted to Brigadier and appointed Base Commander of the Moi Air Base. Colonel Eutychus Nyawira has been appointed Head of Training Support and Research at NDC, while Colonel Nehemiah Kemei has been appointed CEO of Defence SACCO.
At the same time, Lieutenant Colonel Mary Kamau has been promoted to Colonel and appointed as Colonel Finance and Audit at Defence National Security Industries.
Within the Navy, Brigadier John Sankale Kiswaa has been appointed as the Deputy Commander of the Kenya Navy, and Brigadier Peter Shikukuu Chelimo as the Director of the Centre for Security and Strategic Studies at the National Defence University Kenya.
Colonel Lazarus Wafula has been appointed as the Base Commander of Kenya Navy Base – Manda, Colonel Abraham Biwott as the Base Commander of Kenya Navy Base – Mtongwe, and Colonel Mohamed Shemote as the Base Commander of Kenya Navy Fleet.
Lieutenant Colonel Marcella Kanani Aritho has been promoted to Colonel and given the role of Deputy Commander in the Kenya Navy Fleet.
